On Sep 17, 2026, the FTC and the state of Washington announced a proposed order requiring Amway Corp. and two affiliates (World Wide Group and Leadership Team Development) to pay $225 million to resolve allegations of unfair and deceptive recruitment and marketing practices. The FTC called it the largest monetary recovery ever collected from an MLM in an FTC action, with nearly all funds intended as consumer redress. The proposed order also tightens resale rules (including a 70% monthly sell-to-others threshold), customer-receipt and sales-reporting requirements, auditor oversight, recruiter compensation when recruits buy without reselling, and limits on first-year training charges by approved providers. Amway disputes the agencies' characterization and has not admitted wrongdoing. Amway isn't a party plan company, but regulators are clearly focused on earnings claims, proof of resale, and paid field training, and that applies to everyone in the channel.
