What the numbers say
The US is still the largest direct selling market in the world, about one dollar in every five of global sales, per WFDSA. It is also the market that shrank most in dollar terms in 2024; the WFDSA STATS report names the US as the largest decline. Sales and the number of representatives both fell by about 5 to 6 percent, and the three-year trend is negative.
The product mix is unusual. Financial services and utilities alone are 22.9% of US sales, a part of the channel that has little to do with products shown at a home party. For party-plan brands, the comparable slices are wellness, household goods, cosmetics, clothing, and home care.
A second US source tells a slightly different story. The Direct Selling Education Foundation's study puts 2025 US retail at about $34.2 billion with 5.2 million direct sellers, as we covered in our DSEF note. WFDSA's 12.18 million representatives is a wider count, so the two are not interchangeable.
Association
The national association is the Direct Selling Association (DSA).
Member companies agree to the DSA Code of Ethics, which covers how products and the business opportunity are presented.

Note on this data
Figures are as published by WFDSA for 2024 and may be restated in later releases. WFDSA converts local currency to constant 2024 US dollars, so dollar figures can differ from local reports. This page is general information about the market. It is not financial, legal, or business advice, and it does not describe what any person will earn. Starting or joining a direct selling business carries risk, and results vary.
